'Political Animals' Losing Steam
I've watched the first three episodes of the USA Network's "Political Animals" and I may be ready to jump ship.
While the show is, on one hand, a fascinating glimpse into a fictionalized account of the Clinton camp's views on the usurping Obama administration and on the world of liberal beltway politics in general, it's also ridiculously unrealistic, filled with gratuitous foul language and sex scenes, riddled with "message" plot lines (so far, we have bulimia, drug abuse, and two gay characters, including a Supreme Court Justice) and stock characters (the feisty, foul-mouthed grandma, for instance), and it mistakes misogyny for female empowerment (two female reporters happily sleep with their boss, "Hillary" goes running back to "Bill" for an afternoon romp at a motel room, one of the son's wives--who, possibly fueling stereotypes, happens to be Asian--is rarely seen clothed and not engaged in various sex acts with her husband).
Will I watch the fourth episode this Sunday? Depends how bored I am.
