California vs. Greece: Battle of the Public Employee Unions

Public employee unions are one of the Holy Grails of liberalism and any attempt to control the massive and unsustainable spending of taxpayer dollars associated with maintaining their bloated pensions and benefits--not to mention preserving every single government job, no matter how unnecessary--has to be opposed lest the horror of "austerity" (i.e. a society living within its means) descend upon our benighted paradise.
Hence, the spectacle of this East Bay Express op-ed whose author, Darwin BondGraham, is shocked and dismayed that the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and its financial partners "have pressured European politicians to impose harsher terms on the people of Greece in order to guarantee higher repayments on government treasury bonds." It's the battle of the public employee unions; who can bankrupt their state and/or country first?!

The 'Angry Arab' Slams Finkelstein; Wants to Eliminate Israel

As we, and many others, noted last week, there's a video circulating around the internet of infamous Israel-defamer and former DePaul professor Norman Finkelstein slamming the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, calling it a "cult" whose goal is the elimination of Israel.

As one would expect, Finkelstein's--perhaps former--comrades in the anti-Israel world are none too pleased with his break from the party line. One of them, As'ad AbuKhalil--California State University, Stanislaus political science professor and purveyor of the "Angry Arab News Service"--provides a "critique" at al-Akhbar in which he makes the following admission:

Finkelstein rightly asks whether the real aim of BDS is to bring down the state of Israel. Here, I agree with him that it is. That should be stated as an unambiguous goal. There should not be any equivocation on the subject. Justice and freedom for the Palestinians are incompatible with the existence of the state of Israel.

One thing about AbuKhalil: At least he's up front about his genocidal aims. Campus Watch covered a recent lecture of his at the University of California, Berkeley in which he displayed a shocking lust for violence against Israelis. It's disturbing that one's taxpayer dollars, not to mention the next generation, are being sacrificed at the altar of such blatant radicalism.

Explaining Jewish Anti-Semitism

This is one of the better articles (hat tip Steven Plaut) on a phenomenon about which many pages have been devoted to trying to fathom: Jewish anti-Semitism. I can't tell you how many times I hear apologists claim that the despicable views of some Israel (and usually Jew)-hating professor or "activist" are valid because he or she is Jewish. It means nothing, except perhaps that they're even worse than the rest.

The Collapse of Greece; Are We Next?

Here's a horrifying look at the crumbling of Greek society. Note the Greeks' ubiquitous German-bashing instead of addressing their government's self-destructive, socialistic ways. For instance, the public sector has not shrunk an iota since the financial crisis began; only the private sector is suffering. And this is the direction delusional leftists here in America--including, apparently, our president and the entire Democratic Party--want us to go in!
