American Pop Culture: Degeneracy On Parade

Rome, here we come.

No, I'm not talking about vacationing in Italy but about the descent into degeneracy that seems to be overtaking American popular culture. The kind of sexual decadence that many feel helped destroy the Roman Empire from within seems all too familiar.

With television, movies, the Internet and even local stores and markets acting as conveyers of debauchery, it seems there is no escape. Once confined to the margins of society, depravity has now become mainstream.

To read the rest of my latest column, go to SFGate. A comments section has been added, so feel free to chime in.

Thanks, Cinnamon, for reminding us yet again about the limits and flaws of the conservative minds thought process.

My favorite tendency of yours is the ridiculous hyperbole that you employ several times in every post you write. For example: “Where once porno purveyors were satisfied with conventional sexuality, today's smut seekers are just as likely to run across Web sites celebrating necrophilia, bestiality, bondage, pedophilia and rape.”

That statement wreaks of its origin: your butt.

I take solace in the fact that your audience is as small as your intellect. http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=cinnamonstillwell.com
Whatever made you such a bitter little lass is unknown to me, but it sure is fun to ponder.

Again, thanks for the entertainment - I look forward to your next batch of drivel.

Thanks,

Ryan

The main idea in your article is that sexuality is something to hide: from kids, from mothers, from internet users, from everyone. Since when is repression a healthy stance? Of course there is a lot of sick stuff out there. Of course their are age-appropriate ways to present and discuss sexuality. But what many convservatives like you advocate is really that we ignore a big part of ourselves. Your taboos and repression are what drive people to the sickest stuff out there. Squeeze something hard enough and it will come out the cracks in the most interesting ways.

Sexual perversion has existed since mankind began to walk upon the earth - in one form or another. I am no prude by any means, but some "sexual freedom" does go against the grain. Some people have no shame either and some are just plain sick.Don't mind what some anal retentives Cinnamon. Say what you feel to be right !!

I think you should be a little more specific. How do you think sexual degeneracy wrecked Rome?
